Celebrations for Abergavenny

The Abergavenny Band have had reason to celebrate during 2008.

Abergavenny

The Abergavenny Borough Band has celebrated the achievements of what has so far proved to be a very memorable year at their recent Annual Dinner.

Success

The year started off with a successful return to the Welsh First Section Regional Championships in March, and a fourth placed finish under the baton of the then temporary Musical Director, Gareth Ritter.

Following the contest, the band was delighted when Gareth accepted the permanent position of Musical Director.

2008 has also seen the band launch its first CD. Entitled 'Abercadabra', it has proved to be a popular release and valuable source of income at concerts.

It's pleasing that the band still has many experienced players within its ranks and that they are always on hand to pass on their experience to the younger players who continue to progress with usGeraint Thomas

Awards

A number of awards were made at the Annual Dinner, with second cornet, Emily Humphries voted 'Young Player of the Year'. Long Service Awards were presented to Andrew Richards for 40 plus years service, Diane Mogford and Phillip Bull for over 30 plus years service and Steve Ward for 20 years service.

Passing on experience

Band Manager, Geraint Thomas told 4BR: "It's pleasing that the band still has many experienced players within its ranks and that they are always on hand to pass on their experience to the younger players who continue to progress with us."

The band are now preparing for a very busy run up to the Christmas period to raise funds for a tour to France in 2009.
