Porthouse to lead new Cornish cream

Ian Porthouse will lead at least 20 new top young players with the Cornish Youth Band this Christmas.

Twenty new musicians successfully auditioned to join the Cornwall Youth Brass Band for their new season, which started last month. The band now has a total strength of eighty members.

New members

Membership of the County band is an extra musical activity, as all the Musicians also play with one of 23 parent bands in Cornwall as well as one in Devon.

Following the monthly rehearsals with their local tutors, Ian Porthouse will join up with the band as the Guest Conductor for the four day Christmas Residential Course4BR

Following the monthly rehearsals with their local tutors, Ian Porthouse will join up with the band as the Guest Conductor for the four day Christmas Residential Course.

David Danford, principal percussionist of the Cory Band, will join him as Guest Soloist.

New composition

The young Musicians are keenly awaiting a new composition on a local theme, which Cornish composer Simon Dobson, has been commissioned by the Trustees to write for them.

The band has been able to fund this through a generous bequest from the late Bodmin bandsman, Michael Pickett.
