On Saturday November 8th, Dr Roy Newsome will visit the University of Bristol to lead a study day called: 'Brass Bands in the 1960s'.
Open day
The day is open to the general public as part of the Lifelong Learning programme and is sure to be of interest to brass band afficionados in the area.
Great works
Dr Newsome will discuss the works of Eric Ball, Howells, Bliss and Gilbert Vinter, and also provide an insight into how Edrich Siebert and Gordon Langford revolutionised the lighter side of band music.

Director of Lifelong Learning at the University, Philip Harper, told 4BR: "I was delighted when Roy agreed to come and lead this study day in Bristol. I used to meet Roy in Bristol when he conducted the Sun Life Band with which I played in the early 90s, and I hope that many people will take the opportunity of his return to the city to learn from his vast knowledge and experience of brass bands."

Anyone can enrol on the study day which will take place in the magnificent Victoria Rooms in Clifton, Bristol on Saturday 8th November.
The day begins at 10am and finishes at 4pm, the course is fully-accredited and the enrolment fee is £27. The course is for prior enrolments only and it is recommended that you book early.
