No more Perks at Gresley

Long serving baritone player departs from Gresley Colliery.

Gresley

Ian Perks, the long serving baritone player at Gresley Colliery has left his position with immediate effect after an enjoyable nine years of performing and behind the scenes organising with the band.

Enjoyed times

Ian was Contest Secretary for the last 2 years, and told 4BR: "I have enjoyed my time with the band having played at two National Finals, whilst winning the Midlands First Section Regional Contest in 2007 been the highlight.

I must thank them all for that. This has been a very difficult decision, but my personal situation has led to me having to make itIan Perks

Difficult decision

"I’ve also enjoyed great concerts and have made many fiends. Having played under conductors such as Alan Tyler, David Hutchinson, Richard Grantham and David Hirst I have gained valuable tips, which have improved me as a player.

"I must thank them all for that. This has been a very difficult decision, but my personal situation has led to me having to make it. I will be taking some time away from brass bands till the New Year and I wish Gresley Colliery Band all the very best for the future."
