Results: Bolsover Entertainment Contest

Derwent and Strata continue on their winning ways at an enjoyable Bolsover Entertainment Contest.

dERWENT
 

Worsbrough Brass, Strata Brass and Derwent Brass were all winners at the Bolsover Entertainment Contest at the Kissingate Leisure Centre on Sunday 5th October.

Great success

This event run by Bolsover District Council under the excellent supervision of Carole Crompton and her team was a great success, with sixteen bands each playing a 25 minute programme and all trying to impress David Horsfield the adjudicator.

Fine shows

Burbage Silver and Worsbrough Brass competed in the Unregistered Section with both bands putting on a fine shows, with the latter taking the honours

In the Championship Section five bands competed, and it was Derwent Brass, conducted by Keith Leonard who came out on top, with music from 'Westside Story' and the 'Gladiators' amongst their programme4BR

Clear winners

In the 1st to 4th section contest there was a clear winner with Strata Brass conducted by David Hirst. A vocal solo by Julie Thomas, 'Gabrielle's Oboe' from The Mission was the highlight of their well chosen programme.

In second and third places respectively came Silk Brass Astra Zeneca conducted by James Cant and Yorkshire Co-op conducted by Simon Kerwin, in what was a very good standard contest.

Championship win

In the Championship Section five bands competed, and it was Derwent Brass, conducted by Keith Leonard who came out on top and took the £500 prize, with music from 'Westside Story' and the 'Gladiators' amongst their programme.

Ratby Co-operative conducted by Michael Fowles came 2nd with a Paul Lovett-Cooper composition 'Horizons' being a strong feature in their well thought out programme.

The other three contenders, Stockbridge, United Co-op Crewe and United Co-op Milnrow all added to a first class contest but were let down with over blowing at times.

The contest was supported by good sized audience all day and speaking to 4BR, David Horsfield said it had been a pleasure to adjudicate.
