Paula Russell is the winner of the 2008 Barry Tuckwell Prize, this year for cornet, at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass.
The two finalists, Paula and Josh Rogan, performed this morning in Melba Hall at the University of Melbourne in front of the panel of adjudicators — Jens Lindemann, Professor David King, and Professor Barry Tuckwell.
The standard of performance from both finalists was extremely high.
Paula chose to perform Gregsons Prelude and Capriccio, and Carissima Mia by Helen Johnston, while Josh played Anna Karenina and Slavische Fantasy.
The presentation of a YAMAHA Xeno cornet will be made to Paula at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass concert, featuring National Australia Brass, tomorrow evening.
