The Melbourne Staff Band will be visiting Seoul, Korea as part of The Salvation Army’s Centenary Celebrations.
The band will be presenting concerts and recitals in varied locations, including the 10,000 seat YonSei Central Baptist Church, the Ewha Women's University and Seoul Land, a local amusement park.
Repertoire
The band’s major works will be Quintessence, Vitae Aeternum, Faith Reborn and Korea Centennial, a new composition by Mark Bearcroft using Korean national songs and hymns.
Feature soloists will Garry Todd (cornet), Paul Smith (trombone) and Jamie Smith (euphonium). Accompanying the band from Adelaide will be vocal soloist Rebecca Raymond.
The Finale
The culmination of the visit will be the MSB’s participation at the Sunday Morning Worship service in the Jang Chung Gymnasium, where over 6,000 Salvationists are expected to attend.
The final engagement for the MSB will be the Peace Concert at the Seoul Plaza where it will combine with members of the Korean Staff Band, the Hanbit Blind Orchestra and a united band expected to number 500 instrumentalists.
