Foden Richardson’s Glyn Williams had plenty to celebrate at Symphony Hall on the weekend, and as a result not only added a second British Open title to his CV, but also managed to emulate his new wife.
Fantastic day
Glyn married Helen Fox, the band’s flugel player a few weeks ago, and whilst he quite happily described that as a fantastic day, he also admitted that winning the Stanley Wainwright solo prize ran it close.
"That was something special," he said of the wedding day. "Winning the solo prize comes a very close second though, especially as Helen won the trophy with Marple a few years ago."
I'm delighted for the band as well of course for myself. But the solo prize is an added bonus. I thought the band played really and we have been working really hard for this over the last few monthsGlyn Williams
Bragging rights
Helen won her Stanley Wainwright Trophy in 1996 when she was principal cornet with the Marple Band when they won on ’Severn Suite’ at Bridgewater Hall. Glyn though is enjoying the new found bragging rights in the Williams household..
"I'm delighted for the band as well of course for myself. But the solo prize is an added bonus. I thought the band played really and we have been working really hard for this over the last few months."
As for those bragging rights? "I’ll enjoy every minute of it," he said.
