Enfield Brass Band of Adelaide, South Australia are delighted with their recent win in C Grade at the South Australian championships last month.
After the arrival of the band's new MD Rob Kavanagh a few months ago, Enfield have worked very hard and committed to many extra rehearsals.
After languishing in C Grade (its last state championship win in C Grade was in 2002) the band is determined to raise the bar and move up the ranks in a very short space of time.
Goals
Enfield's MD said at the championships, "Enfield have a lot of potential. There is a wonderful core group of players, some with A Grade experience and others who require some more support and training."
"Enfield were an A Grade band just over a decade ago and it is our goal and aspiration to move towards that standard again, whether that takes two years or 10 years, it is the right direction and we will not go backwards."
Rob continues, "The band committee and I have a firm plan in place for the success of the band and we're looking forward to some big projects coming up including the Tanunda Contest, a major concert in December, performances at the Adelaide Fringe next year, an interstate contest and the formation of our new Youth Band."
Rob Kavanagh
Rob Kavanagh has recently arrived back from the UK after three years of enjoying brass banding. Rob played with Leyland Band towards the end of 2005, filling the position of Solo Horn, before taking up the Solo Horn position with Besses o' th' Barn Band in 2006.
In 2007 Rob returned to Leyland Band on 1st Horn. Whilst in the UK, Rob also assisted Fodens, Sellers and BT bands on various horn seats.

He was Principal Cornet with Tanunda Town Band for several years before moving to K&N on flugel horn and changing to tenor horn in 2004.
