City of Chester enjoy solo awards

The City of Chester Band recently held their annual solo competition.

Cityy of Chester

The City of Chester Band recently celebrated as the members of its Training Band held their annual solo competition.

The overall winner was 14 year old Aine Jackson. Aine played her solo on the massive Eflat bass and really impressed adjudicator, local music specialist, Peter Dalton.

Bit scary

Runner-up was Jacob Bentley playing cornet. The band includes adult beginners and Colin Tate competed alongside his son Sam. "It's very different playing a solo than playing within the band. A bit scary really but I'm pleased I did it!" commented Colin to 4BR.

The competition was followed by a short concert, a BBQ and a lively game of rounders.

Fantastic

As conductor Ian Clowes summed things up to 4BR: "The Training Band is all about group playing and team work — today's performances were fantastic and the players will be back at rehearsals on Monday night with a renewed enthusiasm. We always look for activities to complement the hard work within the band, and the rounders game was a great end to a super day."
