One of Tyneside’s premier bands has got just got themselves a new top man.
Westoe Brass Band (in partnership with South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust) has just appointed Ross Cartledge as its new Principal Cornet player.
Ross, aged 25, has held a number of other positions in the band over the last five years.

He told 4BR: "I’ve played for a number of bands but to play principal cornet in the top section has to be the pinnacle of most player's careers."

Delighted
The band’s Musical Director, Jason Smith, told 4BR: "It is always difficult finding players with the ability for the solo seats and we are delighted to be able to make this announcement."
Jason also recognised the efforts of former Principal Cornet, Tom Cooke: "Tom gave the Band excellent service and is a fantastic musician. We wish him well in his future ventures."
Debut
Ross will be making his debut in the seat in a number of engagements over the coming months, including a special service in Sunderland to mark the 90th anniversary of the RAF.
The band is also working towards their annual concert at the Customs House theatre, in South Shields, which takes place in November, and will feature not only Ross, but also the band’s other soloists.
