Doyle takes baton at Wingates

Wingates expand their conducting team with appointment of former Black Dyke flugel player John Doyle.

The Wingates Band has announced to 4BR that they have appointed John Doyle as their Associate Conductor.

John was Black Dyke's star flugel player for 9 years before leaving the band earlier this year, and he now teams up with Wingates at what he hopes isan exciting time in their development.

Second to none

Speaking about the appointment, the band's Professional MD, Andrew Berryman commented to 4BR: "John has been conducting the band while I have been away working on other projects. His enthusiasm and work ethic with the band is second to none and he really does make rehearsals fun.

"I can not think of any other young conductor who is making such an impact on the brass band movement at this time."

Barry Bentley, Wingates' Chairman added; "John fits in perfectly with the band at this exciting time. Andy and John work perfectly together and the band are sure to move forward under the direction of these two young innovative and enthusiastic musicians."

Meanwhile John told 4BR: "I am absolutely overjoyed to be offered the position of Associate Conductor with this great band. Working with this fantastically talented team of musicians, back room staff and Andy with be an exciting time in my career, and I am in no doubt, one of the most successful."

He added: "The band has been turning heads in the brass band movement for some time now and I want to continue the hard working traditions that have become synonymous with Wingates."
