Butlins announce Youth details

Butlins have announced the entry requirements for their 2009 Youth Championships.

The organisers of the Butlins Youth Brass Band Festival, which will be held at the Reds Theatre, Butlins, Skegness on Sunday, 18th January, 2009, have announced their entry requirements.

General Rules and Prizes:

1. This event is for un-registered youth bands, and no form of registration will be undertaken.

2. The Entry Fee will be £50.00 (non returnable).

3. Bands will be limited to a maximum of 35 players (including percussion).

4. Players must not have reached the age of 21 years on the day of the contest.

5. Competing bands will be obliged to complete a list of players, with their dates of birth, to be submitted to the organisers, from which the actual competing band will be drawn.

6. In the event of a protest proof of age may be requested.

7. Each band may use up to 4 tutors, who must be bona-fide tutors to the band, and not occupy a principal position or play a solo.

8. A player may play with more than one band, subject to the organisers approval.

9. Only recognized brass instruments may be used.

10. All bands must supply unmarked scores of their programme. Please ensure that photocopying regulations are adhered to.

11. The performances will be judged on musical content only.

12. It will be CLOSED adjudication, and TWO adjudicators will officiate.

13. The grading of performances will be derived by “placings” and not “points”.

Each band will be allowed a 20 minute programme, but must comprise a March, Sacred Piece and one Own Choice Itemorganisers

Introductions and announcements will not be included in the timing. The official timing will be undertaken by an independent timekeeper.

15. Up to 21 minutes will be allowed, but any extra time taken will result in the loss of a place.

16. A maximum entry of TEN bands will be accepted.

17. All bands will receive an adjudication report and certificate.

18. Placement will be given to the first TWO bands only.

19. A pre draw will be undertaken for this event on the previous evening.

20. If a situation arises for which there is no existing ruling, the organizers reserve the right to act and give judgment as though a rule existed for that situation.

Adjudication and Awards:

Depending on the adjudicators recommendations, all bands will receive either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate of Merit.

Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded:-

FIRST PRIZE: The Keith Wardle Memorial Trophy and £1000.00
SECOND PRIZE: The George Rowell Memorial Trophy and £600.00

Wotton-under-Edge Silver Band

November 4 • We are a busy and very friendly 2nd section band with 5 current vacancies - FRONT ROW CORNET – BACK ROW CORNET- EUPHONIUM - Bb BASS - PERCUSSION. We rehearse on Tuesdays & Thursdays near our lovely home town, just a short drive from M5, J14.


Harlow Brass Band

November 4 • We have vacancies for CORNETS, TROMBONES, 2ND HORN AND PERCUSSION. We are a welcoming, non contesting band who organising their own Spring and Christmas concerts and enjoy playing at local events throughout the year.


Chinnor Silver

November 4 • Our COMMUNITY BANDS next rehearsal is on Monday 10th at 11am and held in our bandroom.. Blowing with us doesn't impact your own band and its free.. We welcome all regardless of ability . Tea and cakes an added bonus.
