Wakefield Metropolitan Band under Conductor Norman Law, has just returned from a successful ten day visit to Wakefield’s twin town, Alfeld-Leine, as part of the town’s 750th anniversary celebrations.
Invitation
The party of 32 were given a civic reception on Tuesday morning, hosted by Herr Bernd Boyshausen, leader of Alfeld Council, at which Band Secretary, Richard Stevens, opened his response in German and went on to thank the town for their kind invitation and warm hospitality.
Presentation
A presentation was made to Dr Max Heller in recognition of his initial inspiration in arranging the first visit by a Wakefield Band to Alfeld in 1980.

Well received
Secretary Richard Stevens told 4BR: "The Band was very well received, giving concerts in Banteln, Hörsum, Hamelin, Hilldesheim and Alfeld, the latter two locations attracting audiences of over 700 to the respective market places on each occasion.
"The local organisers were so pleased with the band’s performance that invitations have already been issued for the Band to return in 2010."
