After a slightly stormy period of unsettled player weather at Newbridge Celynen with the loss of some of their more 'mature' players, the band seems to be heading for more settled times in the run up to their appearance in the First Section National Finals at Harrogate in September.
Horlicks
Replacing these so called "horlicks" players, Newbridge have recently signed some excellent young players to replace these old heads.
Chris Hicks (son of principal euphonium player Andy Hicks at Polysteel) joins on the front row, with Richard Eveson, being the fifth family member of the Eveson clan to sign for the band after Garry, Chris, Tom and Carol. Richard who previously played on the front row with the Upper Rhondda Band, joins the back row at Newbridge.

Delighted
MD Paul Holland told 4BR: "I'm delighted that we've been able to sign a few more excellent young players. Rhiannon Hayes, Krishan Church, Brendon Gudgeon are already in the band and now with Chris and Richard on the cornet bench we are looking forward to our appearance at the nationals. We are confident that with the mixture of youth and experience we now have at Newbridge we will put on another good show in September."
Eventful
Meanwhile, Band Secretary Nigel Thomas told 4BR, "It's been an eventful last few weeks but I think we are now in a position with a settled band to prepare for our next contest at Harrogate."
