Durham Brass Festival of Youth

There is plenty going on in Durham this weekend.

For the first time ever, the Durham County Brass Band Association, in conjunction with Durham Council, has organised an entire day dedicated to showcasing the talents of the region's youth brass bands.

On Saturday, 28th June, 8 bands from the North East will perform a series of concerts to be held at the Millennium Place, Durham.

Showcase

The idea first came from the DCBBA, who wished to showcase more prominently the youth players in the area and consulted various bands, members and secretaries from the region to decide on the best way this could be done. The format decided was a series of concerts to be held, with the focus being on the youth bands and their members.

Do their own thing

Instead of putting the bands in a contest-type environment, each band has an allocated spot where they have 45 minutes and are invited to 'do their own thing' — with the emphasis placed on entertainment and enjoyment for both players and audience alike, rather than in the more formal settings of competition or an amalgamated ensemble.

Timetable

The timetable for performance is as follows:

Saturday, 28th June, Millennium Place, Durham.

Houghton Youth Band 10.30 to 11.15
Hetton Lyons Primary 11.15 to 12.00
Backworth Junior Band 12.00 to 12.45
Spennymoor Youth 13.00 to 13.45

Craghead 14.30 to 15.15

There is no charge to attend any of the concerts.
