Raunds Temps are delighted to announce the appointment of new MD, Robert Prew.
Robert first played the cornet at in the Salvation Army in Plymouth and over his formative years he gradually moved through various instruments, until he arrived at the Eb tuba.
Desford
After a sabbatical from brass playing, he joined the Bristol East Band. Following a career move to the Midlands in the early 1980’s – and a short spell with the Langley Band he found himself at the emerging Desford Colliery Dowty Band under the direction of Howard Snell.
Here he enjoyed seven wonderful years, in what was arguably the best band in the country at that time.
...after his appointment as Musical Director he is looking forward immensely to continuing the fine work achieved at Raunds Temperance Band4BR
Return
Having retired from top level playing, Robert turned to conducting. He took Sandy Silver to third place in National Finals and heped them gain promotion to the Third Section. Stamford Brass followed, culminating in two appearances in the National Finals and promotion to the First Section. A short stint with Cambridge Co-op Band resulted in a return to the Championship Section.
Looking forward
His recent time has been deeply involved with Stamford Brass as player, conductor and administrator, and after his appointment as Musical Director he is looking forward immensely to continuing the fine work achieved at Raunds Temperance Band.
