Results: South Australia Solo and Ensemble Championships

K&N Spring Gully brass soloists showed they are definitely in top form at the South Australian State senior solo competition on 14th June, winning all 11 of the sections in which they were entered.

South Australian Band Association

The players had to work hard though, with a high standard shown by all bands, particularly Salisbury City, Marion City and Unley Concert Band. As well, a few inter-band “rivalries” added to the atmosphere in sections including EEb Tuba, Tenor horn and Euphonium.

The highlight of the day though, would have to be the K&N Quintet, made up of Kevin Joughin (Cornet) Mark Smith (Flugel), Katherine Staples (Tenor Horn) Dave McPhee (Trombone) and Andrew Theophilos (EEb Tuba) who blew the competition away with a spirited rendition of Amparita Rocca.

Adjudicated by Mr Bob Hower and Mr Bill Broughton, the competition was held at the Pembroke School in Adelaide. All from K&N agreed it was a great day, and special thanks must go to Tamra Renton for her fantastic accompanying, and to Bronwyn Dolman and the SABA Executive for running the event.
