Results: Marsden Contest

Fine weather and fine turn out at Marsden.

 

The Marsden March & Hymn Tune Contest took place on the weekend amid fine weather and an excellent turn out of bands.

The adjudicators for the evening were Derek Broadbent at the Bandroom and Kevin Wadsworth at the Riverhead, whilst Bob Craven(Ex-Coldstream Guards) was the deportment adjudicator.

Fantastic

Contest organiser Kath Coton told 4BR: "It was fantastic to see so many bands at the contest and hope that we can build on this success next year our 24th Annual contest which will be held on the 13th June next year."

Ashton win

Ashton under Lyne took the honours at the bandroom venue and the £250 top prize, followed by Pennine Brass, winning £150 and Taylor Woodroe who took £100 for their efforts in helping raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service.

There were also prizes for the best 2nd section abdn (£100); Best 3rd/4th Section (£100); Best Youth (£50); Best Hymn (£50)and Best Deportment (£50). A brand new Hanson cornet hand made to the winning bands requirements was also presented as well as prizes for Best Bass section (£25) and Best Euphonium (£25).

Pennine victory

At the Riverhead venue it was Pennine Brass who took the honours and the £200 top prize ahead of Taylor Woor roe (£120) and Ashton (£90). There were also prizes for best 2nd Section band (£50); Best 3rd/4th Section (£50); Best Youth (£50); Best Hymn (£40); Best Soprano (£20) and Best Trombone Section (£20).
