Over 200 were wounded and 37 soldiers never made it home alive in the conflict that divided many countries.
Among the invited guests will be three young brass players from Auckland — Cohan, Sharah and Zaydan Chapman from Papakura City Brass.

These players originally were part of the Maunrewa Returned and Services Association (RSA) Drum Corp until local conductor Ian Levien introduced them to the bugle and then the cornet for ceremonial occasions at the RSA.

“Three months into playing the cornet the Manurewa RSA asked me to play the bugle for Armistice day and since that day they adopted me as their bugler,” said Cohan. “The Manurewa RSA gave me a generous grant towards a brand new cornet and in return I decided to return the favour by forming a group to entertain the veterans in the RSAs and also in the veterans homes”.

Travelling to Wellington this week are his sister and brother accompanied by their Grandfather Tex Chapman who fully supports the budding young musicians. Ian Levien has also worked hard to tutor the youngsters including the Auckland Band Association solos last weekend.
Parliment, Mayor, Prime Minister and TV!
“They will get to perform at several high profile events including an opening fanfare at Parliament, a Dawn Service at Te Papa, a Mayoral lunch and a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister,” said Tex. “Maori Television will also make a feature of their talent and the honour of performing for the Veterans at Tribute 08.”
