The passing of Cyril Wendt OAM

It is with great sadness we report the news of the passing of one of the oldest Life Members of the Queensland Band Association — Cyril Charles Arthur Wendt OAM.

Cyril passed away a few days ago at the grand age of 101 years and 6 months.

He began his banding career as a Drum Major with the then Bundaberg Excelsior Band. This band later amalgamated and became the Bundaberg Municipal Band in 1935.

His banding 'buddy', Fred Cullum, is the sole survivor of this era in banding.

His son, Kevin Wendt, continues on the family tradition of Drum Majoring and is an active member of the QBA Drill Advisory Board.

The details for Cyril Wendt's funeral are as follows:
Date: Monday 2 June
Venue: Bundaberg Crematorium, Cummings Rd, Bundaberg
Time: 1:30pm

All bandspeople are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring along their instruments. Bundaberg Municipal will be playing prior to the ceremony.

What an innings. Rest in peace, Cyril — you deserve it.
