Over 100 soloists fronted at Takapuna Grammer School yesterday to play in 18 different classes for a full day of competition.
Some good numbers of entries were received from Kumeu Brass and Kumeu Auxilary Brass reflecting the amount of teaching going on in their area.
On the BBQ was Ken Cant helping his North Shore Youth Band raise funds with the catering while senior players and Auckland Band Association committee members led by John Sullivan assisted with other arrangements.
An early result was the Championship Slow Melody won by Andrew Leech of Auckland City Brass (pictured). Andrew has had considerable success on Euphonium locally and nationally but yesterday he was on Trombone playing Flower Song from Carmen (Bizet) beautifully accompanied by Lee Farley.
