BBC4 has broadcast the Brass category final this evening as part of its week of programmes that has already seen Jadran Duncumb (Strings) and David Smith (Woodwind) reach this weekend's Grand Final with just the Percussion and Keyboard finals to be broadcast on Thursday and Friday.
Due to the nature of the BBC's coverage in the run up to the weekend's final, the winner which has been known since February could not be released until its transmission this evening.

Pride
Speaking with 4BR, Peter's parents, Jane and Grenville spoke of 'the enormous pride that the whole family has for Pete's achievement' and that feeling of pride was echoed by Wingates' Chairman Barry Bentley who said 'Peter is a extremely talented individual and we are very fortunate to have him in the band and proud of what he has achieved. On behalf of Wingates Band we congratulate Peter on his magnificent achievement and wish him well this weekend'.
Peter admitted to BBC4 that he thought his mum was 'off her rocker' when it was suggested that he enter the Young Musician competition but said he was 'looking forward to the final'.
Preparation
In addition to his studies at the Chethams School of Music in Manchester and playing with Wingates, Peter has been practicing hard in preparation for this forthcoming weekend and this week will be rehearsing his programme in Wales with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales that includes a Concerto for his challenge for the title.
Third Brass winner?
Should Peter be declared victorious on Sunday he will become only the third brass player to have held the coveted title (the others being Michael Hext and David Pyatt) and he will equal the record of Jennifer Pike in 2002 at being the youngest winner at just twelve years old.
Final streamed
The final itself from the Wales Millennium Centre this Saturday, 10th May will be streamed live on the web at www.bbc.co.uk/youngmusician from 7pm BST.
Peter and the other finalists will return to the stage on Sunday afternoon to give a reprise of part of their chosen concerto as requested by the judging panel and another piece of their own choice. Having deliberated, they will then choose a winner.
