Elland Silver has announced that Phil Shaw has been appointed Musical Director.
Kathleen Harrison told 4BR: "The band works very well under the guidance of Phil and rehearsals are a joy to attend. Phil brings with him a wealth of experience and combined with his musical knowledge and personality the future looks very bright for the band."
Oscars
Meanwhile, the senior band 'Oscars' took place recently where Geoff Whitham presented the awards.
Each band member received a trophy to recognise their podium placing at the Yorkshire Regional Championships, whilst the award for 'Most Improved Player under 18' went to 2nd horn Megan Plant.

Promising
'Most Promising Newcomer' was shared between two of the youngest members of band, Eb bass player Liam Whiting and 2nd trombone Daniel Eddison, whilst the 'Most Improved Player over 18' was shared by 2nd euphonium Amy Rigby and percussion player Graham Harrison.
Band Person of the Year' went to Secretary/3rd cornetplayer Kathleen Harrison and 'Player of the Year' went to soprano cornet player Helen Robinson.
New award
The band is also pleased to announce that Robert Walker, MD of the Horbury Band has given a new trophy for the Annual Slow Melody Contest, and this will be presented to the best trombone player of the day.
The adjudicator for this years contest is Richard Marshall.
