Childs brilliance in Belgium

Virtuoso euphonium player David Childs has be wowing the Belgians recently.

Childs

On Easter Monday euphonium virtuoso David Childs visited Belgium, performing with Brass Band Heist conducted by Bert Van Thienen.

The concert hall at the band's home town of Heist-op-den-Berg was completely sold out as they showcased their skills with a performance of John Golland's "Concerto for Band" before David set about wowing the audience with performances of 'Brillante' and 'Carrickfergus'.

It was David's first solo concert after his major surgery in January, but it certainly proved that he was back!Bert Van Thienen

Combined forces

The combined forces of the band's own young euphonium star Glenn Van Looy and David Childs resulted in a stunning performance of the duet from 'The Pearl Fishers', before conductor Bert Van Thienen couldn't resist in joining the fun and picked up his trumpet for an electric run through 'Virtuosity'.

He's back!

Conductor Bert Van Tienen told 4BR: "It was David's first solo concert after his major surgery in January, but it certainly proved that he was back! He did a great job with his fantastic playing and gave the band a huge boost for the upcoming Flemish Open Brass Band Contest. All our thanks go to him and to York musical instruments for their support. It made it a memorable concert."
