What a night!

Lydney Training Band has just put on thier first major concert production — and it was a great success!

Lydney

Lydney Training Band recently put on their first major concert since their recently formed.

Full hall

The concert was entitled 'Youth Celebration Concert' and incorporated other local youth groups, young dancers and a school choir. The main intention was to give local children the experience of performing in public. The Lydney Town Hall was full and the audience were treated to a wide variety of entertainment.

I feel 'old' players like myself must put the effort in encouraging young players – the only way local bands will survive. To watch the young players enhancing their standards is very rewarding indeedMD Kevin Ford

Aged 4!

The Lydney Training Band, conducted by Kevin Ford, has 80% of the players under 11 (youngest aged 4!). They provided a wide variety of styles and foot-tapping pieces including solos from young cornet player Rory Gordon and Samantha Ford on horn.

Encouraging

Conductor Kevin Ford, having gained his experience with the former Sun Life Band told 4BR: "After so many years of enjoyment playing in the top flight, I feel 'old' players like myself must put the effort in encouraging young players – the only way local bands will survive. To watch the young players enhancing their standards is very rewarding indeed."

Success

With the concert being such a resounding success, the organisers have decided they will make it an annual event, giving the opportunity to other local youth groups to join in the fun.

The Band hopes to continue the steady increase in standard by taking part in some youth contests later in the year.
