Leyland land Walkley

Return to top class banding for former Fairey and YBS player as he takes the top seat at Leyland.

Nick Walkley

The Leyland Band has announced Nick Walkley as its new principal cornet player.

The former principal cornet at Fairey and soprano at YBS takes over as previous top man Andy Lord departs after unbroken service of 20 years.

Elegant ethos

Musical Director Jason Katsikaris told 4BR:"Nick has all the attributes I am looking for in a principal. He is an elegant player with a wonderful sound. Moreover, Nick is committed to achieve excellence, which sits perfectly with the band's ethos."

The prospect of completing such a talented line up of young soloists is an honour and I believe that Leyland has the potential to achieve great things under Jason...Nick Walkley

Important development

The players and associates of Leyland Band are said to be thrilled with the news of Nick’s appointment. It is viewed as yet another important development for Leyland Band and, along with recently qualifying for the National Finals, it continues to achieve its objectives for 2008.

Honour

Nick Walkley commented to 4BR: "I have accepted the principal cornet position at Leyland with excitement. The prospect of completing such a talented line up of young soloists is an honour and I believe that Leyland has the potential to achieve great things under Jason, and not just on the contest platform.

It will be a privilege to be a part of that and I am looking forward to the challenge."

Big shoes to fill

Nick continued: "On behalf of my new band, I would like to thank departing principal cornet Andy Lord for all his dedication and humour, and for leaving such big shoes for me to fill!"

Leyland themselves added to the sentiment by extending its sincere thanks to Andy for his outstanding service and loyalty during his time with the band stating that his attitude, professionalism and personality will be greatly missed. All at Leyland wish him well for the future.
