Rankings: February/March update

The latest World of Brass – 4barsrest Rankings see no changes near the very top, with the Norwegian Championships representing the biggest event so far in 2008.

Top 10 bands 1. Cory 2. Grimethorpe 3. Foden's Richardson 4. Black Dyke 5. Brighouse and Rastrick 6. YBS 7. Brass Band Willebroek 8. Scottish Co-op 9. Whitburn 10. The Fairey Band

Eikanger-Bjørsvik's fantastic victory in Bergen resulted in the band rising five places, and many of the other leading Norwegian bands have moved up considerably following the major event on the Nordic banding calendar.

The other events taking place since the last update were:

Butlins Mineworkers – won by Desford Colliery
Yeovil Entertainment Contest – won by PolySteel
Brass at the Guild – won by Pemberton Old Wigan JJB
Gloucestershire BBA Entertainment – won by Thomas Coaches Mid Rhondda
NEMBBA Derby Contest – won by South Yorkshire Police
South Wales Miners Eisteddfod – won by Tredegar

The eight regional championships in the UK have just begun and they never fail to produce the type of thrills and spills that see bands rocketing up the table.

The next update will follow the last of these, the North of England Championships at the end of March.
