New work set for Conservatoire

A mix of new works, older classics and exciting possibilities to be showcased at Birmingham Conservatoire with Ian Porthouse this evening.

Porthouse

A major new work from student composer Hugh Simpson is to be featured in a concert at Birmingham Conservatoire this evening.

The concert to be directed by Ian Porthouse will feature Hugh's 'Child Harold's Pilgrimage'. Hugh is a second year composition student and tenor horn player in the band.

Wilby

In addition the concert will feature two major Philip Wilby works in 'Paganini Variations' and 'Lowry Sketchbook'. Dr Wilby will be working closely with the students at the Conservatoire in the next few years.

Ian told 4BR: "This is a wonderful chance to hear an exciting new work. It's a very interesting piece from a very talented compositional voice."
