Recently retired soprano star Peter Roberts certainly enjoyed himself at the Butlins Mineworkers Championships on the weekend, where although not contesting he still managed to walk away with two prestigious awards.
4BR Special Award
The Butlins organisation presented him with their ‘Excellence Award’ as an appreciation of his contribution to the brass band movement. Peter was also presented with the 2007 4BR Special Award by 4BR Directors Anthony Banwell and Iwan Fox.

Spanish
"I’ve had a wonderful weekend here at Butlins and it’s a great privilege to be presented with the two awards. Even though I’ve retired from active playing I’m still keeping myself busy.

Exciting things
Despite the golf and the ability to understand the Spanish football results, Peter has a full diary of brass band related engagements too, with adjudication assignments taking an ever increasing part of his time. "There are lots of exciting things on the horizon brass band wise too, so I’m sure you haven’t seen the last of me yet," he said.
Unique talent
4BR Director Anthony Banwell expressed his admiration for the 2007 award winner. "There was no doubt in our minds that Peter was the person who should be the recipient of our Special Award. His achievements are part of brass banding history, and we doubt if we will ever see his like as a player again. He was a truly unique talent."
