Is there something distinctly unlucky about the combination of the first name "Ian" and Sandhurst Band?
A series of unfortunate events have tested the resolve of Sandhurst Band in trying to get organised for the forthcoming contest at Butlins in Skegness.
Strike One!
Firstly, newly appointed MD Ian McElligott was unfortunately pre-booked by Thoresby for the Butlins contest. No problem, a fine guest conductor was appointed in the form of Major Ian Peaple, an ex-REME conductor and perfect for the job.

Strike Two!
Iain Abbot, the band's soprano cornet player has a nasty fall at work and injures his lip. Despite initial hopes of a return to playing in time for Butlins, Iain will now not be able to play in the contest.
Strike Three!
Ian Peaple, our guest conductor has an unfortunate accident whilst skiing and sustains some injuries that will put him out of action for some time.
Neil Jobes, PRO for the band told 4BR: "Band Manager Patrick Donovan has risen to the challenge and already found another guest conductor — Dave Barringer, conductor of the British Army Brass Band.
Name check!

Ian added: "Our best wishes go out to Ian and Iain, wishing them both a speedy recovery and a swift return to banding."
