Alexandra Kerwin has announced her decision to leave YBS Band.
In her statement she says: "It is with regret that I announce my resignation from YBS Band.
To leave YBS was a horrendous decision. I have enjoyed being principal cornet immensely and I am desperately disappointed to have only been at the band for a short spell."
Family first
She adds: "However, because of my location in Nottinghamshire, the journey time and my commitment to the band was putting extreme pressure on my family. My son has an eye condition that I have only recently discovered is proving a problem with his schoolwork; he needs a lot of help and support, which I was not fully providing.
My daughter was also missing out. I am a wife and mother first and foremost, and as much as it was a wrench to leave such a fantastic bunch of people it was the only option."
I sincerely wish my friends at YBS all the best for the future, it was an honour to be principal cornet and I am very proud to have been associated with a fantastic fight for survival...Alex Kerwin
Continue to play
Alex concluded: "I will continue to play for the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers (V) (which is very local for me) and I very much look forward to spending time with my family. I am looking to get involved with youth development in Nottinghamshire and will be seeking to start a training band where my children can join in."
Thanks
Alex added: "I sincerely wish my friends at YBS all the best for the future, it was an honour to be principal cornet and I am very proud to have been associated with a fantastic fight for survival in some wonderful performances both on contest and concert stages. My thanks go to Morgan Griffiths, the players and the committee for their support and understanding.
