New addition to bagpipe and brass repertoire

The success of 'The Piper's Farewell' has led to a second brass band and bagpipe work from composers Ian Macpherson BEM and Scott Morton.

Bagpipes
The work is for brass band and bagpipes

Following the success of 'The Piper's Farewell' which recently brought the mediums of brass bands and bagpipes together, a new work has been composed by Ian Macpherson BEM and Scott Morton.

Ian's arrangement is of 'The Hallowed Brae', which evokes a sweeping musical narrative steeped in Scottish heritage, which he says sees the bagpipes "set a plaintive tone over sustained harmonic textures in the winds, as if unveiling the brae in the soft light of dawn."

Colour and intensity

Ian added: "The work then gradually builds in colour and intensity, with interwoven lines, warm brass harmonies, and subtle percussion adding depth and resonance suggesting echoes of history and the voices of the past carried on the wind."
