Regent Brass continues its critically acclaimed series of concerts of contemporary brass band music on Saturday, October 10th (3.00pm) as part of the 2026 Regent Hall Brass Arts Festival.

World Premiere

Conductor Alan Duguid has chosen an intriguing selection of works for this free event, entitled, 'Rituals and Revelations' — with the focal point the world premiere of 'Ode to the Three Who Hanged' by their Composer in Residence, Franklin Onyeso.

Drawing upon 19th-century American traditional hymns alongside influences from Gregorian chant, the work transforms familiar sacred musical traditions into something deliberately more uncomfortable — restructuring the composition as a retrospective psychological timeline.

Rather than focusing solely on the macabre finality of the gallows, the music
traces the trio's past lives, reflecting on their humanity, transgressions, and
inner trials and tribulations, before reaching the moment when their sentence
is carried out.

Ravel, Respighi, Deleruyelle, Arnold, Howard

Also featured are Verdi's 'Grand March from 'Aida' to open, followed by Respighi's 'Huntingtower Ballad' (arr. Alastair Wheeler) and 'Fraternity' by Thierry Deleruyelle whilst the band will also accompanying pianist Erin Black in the 'Adagio assai' from Ravel's 'Piano Concerto in G'.

Malcolm Arnold's 'Little Suite for Brass No.3' opens the second half, followed by the rare opportunity to hear Emily Howard's 'Obsidian'. Following the world premiere of 'Ode to the Three Who Hanged', the concert closes with the 'Final Dance' from Manuel de Falla's 'Three Cornered Hat'.
