The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA) and Kapitol Promotions have announced that five participants will take in the jointly promoted Adjudicators' Experience Day at the Section 1-4 National Finals at York Barbican on Saturday 19th September.

Alex Bland, Alfred Hadinger, Tom Hancock, Jonathan Fenwick and Charlie Whelan will join AoBBA mentor Martin Heartfield.

Participants

Alex is MD of Shipston Town, Syston and Ilkeston Bands, whilst Tom is MD at Audley Brass.

Jonathan is resident conductor of the EverReady Band with Charlie being the most recent winner of the UniBrass Composition Competition. Alfred will be travelling from the USA where for the past 15 years he has been Principal Eb Bass of Atlantic Brass Band.

It will see the quintet cover score preparation, the PAC (Performance Assessment Criteria) code, contest preparation and paperwork. They will also undertake their own adjudications for half of the Section 1 contest, meeting the official adjudicators and taking part in a de-brief Q&A session.

Invaluable experience

Speaking about the initiative, Philip Morris of Kapitol Promotions, said: "We're pleased to continue our support of AoBBA's Adjudicator Experience Day. The opportunity to work with our official adjudicators provides invaluable experience and contributes to the development of future adjudicating talent within the movement."

Shadow judges

Sunday 20th September will see AoBBA Development Members Melissa Brown, Zoe Higgins and Robert Nicholson take part in a shadow adjudication in Section 4 with Martin Heartfield as part of the AoBBA Development Programme.
