Glyn Williams and Tommy Tynan will now lead Marsden on their top section return

Marsden Silver Prize has announced a new conducting musical partnership to lead them on their return to the Championship Section in Yorkshire.

The experienced Glyn Williams will become Professional Conductor with Tommy Tynan becoming Resident Conductor. The partnership will begin following the band's appearance in the First Section National Final in York, where they will be directed by Ben Dixon.

Williams return

It also sees Glyn return after a gap of over 11 years since he last directed them during a period which saw considerable success, including two victories at the British Open Senior Cup and the last Pontins Championships.

Since then, he has enjoyed further success with the baton, most notably with Aldbourne in recent years. He will lead the band on their return to the Championship Section Yorkshire Area Championships next year.

Moving further North recently enables him to work with both bands as well as develop his musical connection with his new resident conductor.

Glyn said "Tommy and I have been friends for a long time, and I've watched with great pride how he's developed as a musician over the years. To work together with Marsden Band will mean so much and will be terrific for all involved. I'm really looking forward to getting started!"

Connection

Tommy Tynan also has a long-standing connection with Marsden and of its musical identity and community, having played with the band for a number of years.

His emerging conducting career has already seen him claim a first Area title with Lostock Hall Memorial Hall at the North West Regional Championships earlier this year, whilst he recently worked with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain as Assistant Conductor on their Summer Course.

The partnership will begin following the band's appearance in the First Section National Final in York, where they will be directed by Ben Dixon4BR

Special place

He added: "I'm incredibly happy to be forming a new conducting team alongside Glyn.

Marsden is a very special place for me. I first joined the band as a 13-year-old percussionist and it was here that I was given my first real opportunity on tuba, learning my and setting me on the path that has shaped so much of my musical life."
