Pilling Silver Band has announced the appointment of the experienced Mark Vause as its new Musical Director.

A graduate of Salford College where he studied under Dave King and Roy Newsome, he has also played with many leading bands, including Foden's, Swinton Concert, Wingates and BT Band where he was principal cornet for many years.

The music teacher has also enjoyed considerable success as a conductor of Langley Band and the award winning City of Lichfield Concert Band, which he conducted for 17 years.

He recently moved back to the Morecambe area and told 4BR: "It's great to be back in Lancashire where my love for brass bands began 50 years ago, and I'm looking forward to developing a band which has a long and proud tradition."
