The Fred Longworth High School Brass Band has enjoyed the honour of performing in the Houses of Parliament as part of a dinner event hosted by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons in welcoming his counterpart Gerry Brownlee of the New Zealand National Parliament.
Exemplary
On looking back at the occasion, a spokesperson for the school stated: "Our students were exemplary throughout the day — performing to an exceptionally high standard while demonstrating outstanding professionalism, teamwork and dedication. They were fantastic ambassadors for both our school and our community."
A musical highlight was the performance of the traditional Maori love song 'Pokarekare Ana', whilst the students were also able to meet and chat with the Speakers, members of their delegations, and local MP, Jo Platt.
Brilliant occasion
The spokesperson added: "This was a brilliant occasion where FLHS brass band represented the school on a national stage, and we could not be prouder of every student involved.
Their talent, commitment and conduct were absolutely incredible. Well done to all our musicians — you were amazing and did the school proud!"
