One of the most respected figures in the New Zealand banding world has just retired from his professional role as Director of Music of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.
Squadron Leader David Gallaher held the position for eight and half years, adding further acclaim to a career that also saw him lead Woolston Brass to five National Championship titles as well as latterly becoming a highly respected adjudicator.
Distinction
During his Air Force tenure with it was stated that he led with "distinction" through both periods of significant challenge, and achievement. Highlights included international engagements, conducting performances at Gallipoli Anzac commemorations, and oversight of innovative initiatives during the COVID-19 period.
Most recently, he served as Officer-in-Charge for combined NZDF Bands at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Auckland.
Lasting impact
It was added that, "beyond these accomplishments, his genuine care for the welfare of his people and his leadership have left a lasting impact on all who have served alongside him."
