The Brassettes Podcast has returned with two new episodes on YouTube, featuring conversations with Dr Jennifer Oliverio and Kathy Frater.
Hosted by Jo Behan, the podcast continues to shine a spotlight on the stories, achievements and experiences of women in the brass band world, with the latest episodes offering two very different but equally inspiring musical journeys.
Dr Jennifer Oliverio
In Episode 7, Jo chats to Dr Jennifer Oliverio, the principal cornet with Fountain City Brass and flugel horn with Athena Brass Band. She is also Assistant Professor of Music in trumpet at Missouri Western State University and one of the directors of the Fountain City Youth Brass Academy.
Kathy Frater
In Episode 8, Jo visits Kathy Frater. Kathy was the first female player to join Easington Band in the 1970s and shares memories of her banding life, friendships and what it was like to become part of the band at that time.
Kathy also speaks about the strength and support she found through banding, particularly after tragically losing her husband Colin, a soprano cornet player, at the age of just 26.
