Dodworth Colliery MW Band from South Yorkshire has launched a new leadership structure and trainee conductor development initiative, as it looks to strengthen the organisation.
Conductors
The ventures are being led by conductors Adam Whittle and Charlie Brammer.
Adam will take on the role of Musical Director with a clear focus on band development and contesting ambitions. He will provide monthly development sessions working closely with the band to enhance individual performance, ensemble cohesion and overall musicality. He will also lead them on the contest stage.
Charlie will take the role of Resident Conductor, developing concert performances, ensuring continued development and overseeing the new Conductor Development Programme which is aimed at developing future MDs.
Success
Success has already been marked by the Dodworth Junior Band, developed in partnership with St John's Primary School in the town, with young musicians playing together since September last year and taking to the stage for a Christmas Concert in December.
Creating opportunities
Speaking about the initiatives Band Chairperson Paul Coupland told 4BR: "This is a really exciting moment for the band. With Adam driving our musical and contesting development, and Charlie mentoring future conductors, we're building something that supports progression at every level. It's about raising standards, creating opportunities and making Dodworth a place people want to be.
This bold approach reflects the band's long-term commitment to growth; both on the contest stage and within its wider musical community."
