Wright & Round: Macchia (Philip Harper)

A wonderful lyrical euphonium with the scent of Sardinia to add to your concert programmes.

mACCHIA
The work captures the aromatic essence of Sardinia

This lyrical euphonium solo with a hint of the beauty of Sardinia adds a moment of reflection to concert programmes.

'Macchia' is an original composition from the pen of Philip Harper that showcases the art of expressive melody and sensitive scoring.

It was commissioned by Brass Band Limburg in Switzerland as a tribute to Renato Meli to mark a decade of his outstanding conducting, and stands as both a personal and musical celebration of that relationship.

Aromatic

The title refers to the wild, aromatic vegetation that defines the Sardinian landscape — the scent of which has a deeply personal meaning for the dedicatee as it is the first thing that strikes him on his return to his homeland.

Philip Harper captures this sense of remembrance, vividly weaving warmth and nostalgia throughout the solo line.

Third Section and above

Ideal for bands of Third Section standard and above in accompaniment and soloists with a mature appreciation of lyrical playing, it makes an ideal concert feature, offering both musical depth and emotional connection.
