In the run-up to the forthcoming World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade in July, the event will once again feature its World Youth Brass Band (WYBB).
First organised for the 2022 event, the band will feature 29 musicians aged between 18 and 25 under the direction of Dutch conductor Erik Janssen and guest soloists, Glyn and Helen Williams.
World class
Speaking to 4BR about the initiative, Björn Bus, Artistic Director at WMC said: "The World Youth Brass Band is our way of bringing together talented performers to enjoy a world class direction and musical experiences.
By creating this band, we are setting a stage where young people with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds can meet each other and form lasting friendships through music.
I consider this to be a vital task of an international wind music festival like WMC."
Performances
4BR was informed that the band will perform at a number of WMC 2026 events, including the award ceremony prior to the First Division and two major concerts in the Kerkrade area.
The World Youth Brass Band will be based at the festival location of Rolduc Abby in Kerkrade from July 5th to July 12th, 2026.
