Welsh help required

Welsh banding needs help and information to promote its work and its investment in the next generation of players.

Brass Bands Wales
Brass Bands Wales is looking for help and information

Brass Bands Wales (Bandiau Pres Cymru), the representative body for the Welsh brass band movement has told 4BR that they have received encouraging interest in the recently advertised volunteer role to spearhead its PR & Communications.

The organisation is seeking a motivated and creative person to help shape and deliver its communications strategy — one which seeks to increase and improve its direct links to the wider brass banding community, the public, stakeholders in education, the arts, and government.

Important period

A BBW/BRC spokesperson told 4BR: "We are seeking a committed person with a familiarity with the brass band sector, music organisation and arts advocacy, with the drive and creative passion to make their mark with us."

BrassBuzz

The organisation has also launched 'BrassBuzz' aimed at strengthening the future of the movement and is calling on bands, educators and communities across the country to help shape it.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "BrassBuzz is a new programme to establish up to six new beginner brass groups across Wales over the next twelve months, creating accessible entry points for new players and supporting the long-term sustainability of the brass band tradition."

Partnerships

4BR was informed that the project will focus on providing high-quality, community-based learning opportunities. These will work in partnership with local bands, schools and organisations to engage new players of all ages, particularly in areas where access to brass instrumental education is currently limited.

However, before the funding application is finalised, Brass Bands Wales is keen to hear more from across the Welsh brass band community to help understand where there are vibrant areas of activity and where there are not.

Gathering information

The spokesperson added: "By gathering insight, Brass Bands Wales aims to ensure BrassBuzz is targeted where it can have the greatest impact, both in strengthening existing activity and in reaching entirely new communities."

The organisation is inviting expressions of interest from brass bands interested in hosting or supporting a learner group, as well as from tutors and educators keen to be involved in delivery. Interest in also requested from schools and community organisations looking to develop brass provision.
