BrookWright Music: Avifauna (Joshua Tyler Jameson)

A work inspired by the brilliant birds of America is a sure flight of fancy for concert programmes.

BrookWright
The works was written for the National Youth Band of America

This highly descriptive work was commissioned by the National Youth Brass Band of America and is a terrific concert or contest item.

Different birds

The music paints the picture of the lives of a variety of different birds, with the composer writing: "The inspiration struck in the quiet of my office at sunrise, accompanied only by the gentle song of birds outside my window.

I immediately envisioned a 'Planet Earth' style narrative—a majestic sunrise teeming with life — a vivid story told through the iconic birds of North America.

The journey begins at dawn with the delicate chirps of Morning Birds. As the daylight strengthens, the music becomes lively and wild, capturing the lightning-speed transit of Hummingbirds darting between flowers."

Darkness

He adds: "When the sun sets, the focus shifts to the enigmatic Owl. In the dead of night, the atmosphere darkens further and the scavenging Vulture emerges.

Finally, the cycle returns — a new dawn and a new day and another exciting journey through the eyes of the winged creatures that paint our skies."

Difficulty Level: 2nd Section +
