70 young brass band musicians from the four regions of Yorkshire recently joined forces for a wonderful 'Next Generation' day of inspirational tuition held at York St. John University.
Led by Richard Marshall, players all aged 16 and under enjoyed a day of expert-led workshops and masterclasses, ensemble coaching and massed band playing. And if the enthusiastic feedback was a mark of the day's success, the organisers will already be making plans to repeat the initiative in the future.
Support
Supported by the Yorkshire and North of England Regional Championships organisers alongside the Yorkshire Music Future Fund, who currently sponsor the three-year scholarship for the youngest player in each section at the at the Yorkshire Championships, it turned out to be a outstanding day of inclusive music making.
Impressive
A spokesperson told 4BR: "What made things even more impressive was the young musicians didn't know what pieces they were going to rehearse until they arrived — so it was amazing to hear the end results at the special concert for parents and family at the end of the day.
Our thanks go to Richard and tutors as well as to the Yorkshire Music Future Fund, which continues to invest in youth in such a supportive way."
