The Leyland Band has been awarded National Lottery funding to celebrate 80 years of music-making.
The award from the National Lottery Community Fund will assist the band in delivering a special programme of 80th anniversary events throughout 2026.
Past, Present and Future
Formed in 1946, Leyland Band has grown from a local town band into one of the most respected names in the British brass band movement. The project is to be called, 'Celebrate the Past, Present and Future' and will honour that journey while looking ahead to the next generation of musicians.
It will also see the band try and contact all former players, conductors and administrators to enjoy the different events, including a special concert by the current Leyland Band, narrated with historical reflections and memories presented on screen.
Former players
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Former players will be invited to join the band in a fitting finale, symbolising the shared legacy that has shaped Leyland Band over eight decades.
There will also be ample opportunity to socialise, reminisce and reconnect with fellow musicians and friends."
A display of memorabilia will be on show, and attendees are encouraged to bring along items of personal or historical interest.
