The Cumbria Youth Band will appear at the National Youth Championships this year — marking a return after 30 years for a band from the region.

The Cumbria Youth Band will appear at the event — ending a 30 year break

For the first time in 30 years young brass band musicians from Cumbria will compete at the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

The event organised by Brass Bands England takes place on Saturday 28th March, and will include the Cumbria Youth Brass Band — a vibrant ensemble of players aged 7-17.

With an ethos of older players acting as mentors the ensemble has been growing in strength since its launch in 2023 under the support of the regional Drum and Brass organisation.

Milestone

Its Marketing Manager Raven Taylor told 4BR: "This marks a major milestone for the group, as it's the first time in three decades that a youth brass band from Cumbria will take to the national stage.

CYBB brings together young musicians from across the county to rehearse, develop skills with professional coaching, and perform together at regional and prestigious events.

Throughout the season, the band has benefited from expert guidance, community support and opportunities to cultivate friendships and musicianship."

Passion and spirit

Raven added: "This is a landmark moment. Taking part in Youth Champs after so many years reflects the hard work, passion and community spirit of our players, mentors and supporters.

CYBB's appearance at Youth Champs is expected to boost youth engagement with brass music across Cumbria and signal a bright future for youth musicians in the region."
