The Scottish champion heads south on the weekend

Scottish champion Whitburn will be making a welcome visit to the heartland of English banding this weekend as they perform in concerts at the RNCM in Manchester as well as in Saddleworth.

Band Across Borders

The band has been invited to perform at the 'Brass Across Borders' concert alongside KNDS Fairey Band at the RNCM on Saturday 31st January (6.00pm) in what is also a celebration of the 70th birthday of Fairey's stalwart cornet player Jimmy Leggat.

A proud Scotsman originally from Whitburn he has been a member of the famous Stockport Band for 43 years, announcing his retirement form active playing at the Brass in Concert Championships last year.

Much of the music to be performed has a link to him — including a couple of his favourites such as 'Rhapsody in Brass' and 'Vizcaya', whilst the finale will see the combined forces joined by the sound of the RNCM organ for the finale from Saint Seans 'Symphony No. 3'.

Dobcross Band Club

The following day (Sunday 1st February) the band will provide an afternoon concert at the Dobcross Band Club (2.00pm) with a programme that is sure to provide plenty of entertainment.
