Cockerton Prize Silver Band has announced the appointment of Duncan Wilson as its new Musical Director.
Highly experienced and respected, Duncan was MD at Kidlington Concert Brass for 13 years before a move to the north east where he recently enjoyed a tenure as Resident MD with NASUWT Riverside, working alongside Prof. Nicholas Childs.
Away from the baton, Duncan is principal trombone with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, alongside freelance commitments with the Halle, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and Ulster Orchestras. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Worked hard
Speaking of his appointment, he told 4BR: "I'm really looking forward to working with Cockerton. They've worked incredibly hard in recent years to achieve Championship status for the first time in their long history.
It's a big step up but they're up for the challenge and there's a really positive atmosphere in the bandroom. I'm very grateful to outgoing MD Andy Hunter who worked so hard with them for a number of years".
Delighted
In welcoming Duncan, Band Chairperson, Tony Graham added: "We are delighted to welcome Duncan as we negotiate the challenges of the Championship Section for the first time.
We feel this is a great appointment that will help us move forward in the hardworking and positive spirit that has become our trademark."
